The Rise of Clix

The Rise of Clix

Cody Conrad, better known online as Clix, is one of the youngest success stories in gaming but his journey didn’t start with fame. Born on January 7, 2005, in Connecticut, he picked up gaming at just five years old, inspired by his older brother. Before the world ever heard of him, he was grinding games like Minecraft and Call of Duty, already dreaming of becoming a professional player long before it seemed realistic.

Everything changed when Fortnite Battle Royale launched in 2017. While the game exploded globally, Clix saw more than just fun he saw opportunity. Without even owning a PC at first, he secretly used his brother’s setup to play. But that wasn’t enough. He made a bold promise to his dad: buy him a PC, and he’d earn the money back by the end of summer. That risky bet? It paid off within weeks.

Clix didn’t just play he hustled. He launched his YouTube channel, uploaded montages, and streamed daily on Twitch, slowly building an audience. From just a few viewers to consistent streams pulling 20–100 people, he was laying the foundation of something bigger. Then came the announcement that would change everything: the Fortnite World Cup, featuring a massive $30 million prize pool.

Determined to prove himself, Clix teamed up with Skeptic and joined Misfits Gaming. He locked in harder than ever and the results were insane. Clix qualified five times for the World Cup, earning over $22,000 before even stepping onto the main stage. His online presence exploded at the same time, going from hundreds of views to thousands almost overnight.

When the World Cup finals in New York arrived, expectations were sky-high. Facing the best players in the world, Clix placed 35th in duos, earning $50,000. Not the result he wanted but he wasn’t done. The very next day, he came back stronger in solos, finishing 18th and taking home $112,500. In total, Clix walked away from the event with over $160,000 and a name the entire Fortnite community now knew.

After the World Cup, everything changed. Clix transitioned to online school as his career took off, and competitively, he adapted to new formats like trios. At the same time, his content was booming averaging up to 15,000 live viewers. Then came a massive moment: he signed with NRG Esports, with his announcement featuring none other than Shaquille O’Neal. Around this time, he also hit 1 million subscribers on YouTube, solidifying his status as both a pro player and content creator.

Living in the NRG content house, Clix expanded beyond gaming creating viral IRL videos, pranks, and challenges. But not everything was smooth. Controversies, including tweets and rule violations, led to setbacks like losing his creator code in Fortnite. Despite this, Clix kept evolving, launching his clothing brand “Dreaming,” which quickly took off with thousands of sales in days.

As Fortnite’s competitive scene shifted, Clix adapted again. He left NRG, regained his creator code, and moved to Dallas to compete on zero ping servers. He invested big buying a multi million dollar property and continued growing his brand. But then came one of his biggest setbacks Clix was banned from Fortnite Battle Royale during a major competitive period. The reason? “Teaming.” During a match, a stream sniper dropped him loot and stayed close to him, making it look like they were working together. Even though it wasn’t intentional, the system flagged it as cheating. This ban meant he missed FNCS Grand Finals and couldn’t compete for months.

Just two weeks later, Clix was unbanned but the damage was done. He lost his chance at that FNCS run. Instead of falling off, he used that time to reset, find a new duo, and prepare for his comeback. And when he returned, he came back locked in. Clix’s influence kept expanding beyond gameplay. He became co-owner of XSET, collaborated with brands like Finalmouse, and partnered with Gunnar Optiks a product he’d been using since childhood. His journey wasn’t just about playing anymore it was about building an empire.

Then came one of the biggest moments of his career. After mysteriously teasing a date across social media, Clix revealed he was joining the Fortnite Icon Series an honor reserved for the biggest names in the game. This wasn’t just recognition it was legacy. Despite past conflicts with Epic Games, he rebuilt that relationship and reached the top.

Today, Clix remains one of the most dominant and influential Fortnite players in the world. While he hasn’t yet secured an FNCS championship, he’s come incredibly close multiple times and with his current form, that victory feels inevitable. From sneaking onto his brother’s PC to getting banned and bouncing back stronger, to becoming a global icon, Clix’s rise proves one thing: pressure creates legends.
